Regrettably, only time for an overnight stay here with a dull and cloudy afternoon followed by a beautiful morning. The pictures are a mixture of both spent mainly on Parliament Hill. It is a lovely city dominated by its architecture and the copper roofs of the capital buildings. Ottawa is situated in Southern Ontario on the banks of the Ottawa River. It was chosen as the capital of Canada by Queen Victoria in 1857.

They have already taken over in parts of England and appear to be spreading. Their rise mean the greys now have serious competition for the first time since they were introduced to Britain from America in the 1870's. The black squirrel is also likely to make life even harder for our native red squirrels. A study by Cambridge scientists shows that black squirrels now make up half the squirrel population in some parts of the UK. They are genetic mutations of greys but have a darker fur and higher levels of the male sex hormone testosterone - making them more aggressive and more successful.
The Persons Case of 1929 was a landmark step in Canadian Womens struggle for equality. This monument celebrates the joint efforts of five woman who won a legal challenge to have women considered "persons" under the British North American Act.
