The first of a series of photographs taken during a month of travelling in the North East of the USA and the South East of Canada. These pictures include many views from Midtown Manhattan skyscrapers.
Terminal 5 Heathrow on a quiet day. Unfortunately planes go from airports....beam me up Scotty, but after a much publicised troubled opening we found it very efficient and user friendly, particularly if you are flying into, and out of it without transferring to another terminal.
Sunset over the Atlantic at 40,000ft from a British Airways 747 window.
New York JFK Airport Air Train. Most inter airport transport is by an elevated train system....
Manhattan sky line...the Empire State Building clearly visible.
Stayed in Midtown Manhattan for three days. The first sight out of our hotel, a London Bus....
.......and a credit crunch New York police car.
Everywhere very busy.
Empire State Building - the best view is from the Rockefeller Center.
Rockefeller Center. A massive Art Deco construction built in the 1930's by the Rockefeller family. It is the home of NBC studios and Radio City Music Hall. It has a shopping centre and much more. You could spend all day here. The Top of the Rock viewing deck is ......at the top.
And at the base.....Atlas.
Looking up through the transparent ceiling of the lift in the Rockefeller Center at the 70 floors to the Top of the Rock.
Empire State Building from the inside viewing deck......
....and a fantastic view from the the outside deck.
Looking south - the Hudson River flowing into Upper Bay......
.....a closer look - Liberty and Ellis Islands in Upper bay.

All the skyscraper tops have enough machinery to run a small town.
Looking east over New York City.....
....west over Jersey....
...and north over Central park.
Top of the Rock....very open....
....but only a 20ft drop....not 900ft....
Ideal Communications locations....
Feet back on the ground....opposite the Rockefeller Center the Cathedral of St Patrick, the largest Catholic Cathedral in the United States. .......
......it's Neo Gothic Architecture providing a strange contrast with it's surroundings. Many films have had scenes shot here including Miracle in the Rain, Spider Man, Planet of the Apes, and Ugly Betty.

Each candle represents the personal faith of an individual.
The Empire State Building is of Art Deco design and is 102 storeys high or 1250ft. With the pinnacle it's height rises to 1453ft. It's name is derived from the nickname for the State of New York. It stood as the world's tallest building for more than forty years, from its completion in 1931 until construction of the World Trade Center's North Tower was completed in 1972. Following the destruction of the World Trade Center in 2001, the Empire State Building once again became the tallest building in New York City and New York State.
The viewing deck.
The building's distinctive Art Deco spire was originally designed to be a mooring mast and depot for airships.
Looking back to the Rockefeller Center. The building was renamed in the 1980s after General Electric.
The Queensboro Bridge over the East River and the top of the Chrysler Building - one of the finest examples of classic Art Deco Architecture - was briefly the world's tallest building between 1930 and 1931 and the backdrop of many Hollywood films.
Looking down on the world's largest store........
