One of Blackpool's Piers. An evening stroll along the front. Blackpool, Lancashire's well known seaside resort known for its Tower - easily seen from the Lake District on a clear day - Illuminations, Promenade, Pleasure Beach, candy floss, kiss me quick hats and much more.......is presently undergoing a 15 year regeneration plan to transform it into a......world class resort....whatever that means.....probably more expensive. I bet that there are very few people from the North of England, or the rest of the British Isles who have not visited here at some time in their lives and taken away all kinds of memories......but it is undeniably different. It has a long history. The following link has some interesting historic background. Blackpool History
Pleasure Beach at dawn.....Pepsi Max roller coaster.
.......and beach.
Tower.....approaching the town centre.
The regeneration work in progress on the seafront and promenade.
Some of the finished work.
The Golden Mile, and 12 miles of promenade....on a busy day the trams can carry 120,000 people.
Funfair on the Pier.
....and the ever present joke shop.
New Promenade, Pepsi Max roller coaster at the Pleasure Beach...and on reflection..... the gigantic mirror ball nearly 7m across.
When you come over the top all you see is the sea and the horizon ..... then.........oh sh....
Wreck of the Riverdance at Cleveleys just north of Blackpool. She was a RoRo Ferry belonging to Seatruck Ferries on the Irish Sea. In January of this year she was struck by a wave which shifted her cargo. Attempts to save her obviously failed and she is now to be broken up for scrap on site.
