Across Waterhead Bay, Wray Estate - the Castle appearing through the mist. Wray Estate was donated to the National Trust in 1929. The castle was built around 1856 in the Victorian Gothic Revival style for James Dawson a retired Liverpool Surgeon.....his wife inherited a fortune from the Gin business....so more of a Gin Palace than a castle.
Dower House, the main entrance into the Wray Estate.
Lake Windermere quiet, early in the morning.......
.......looking south across High Wray Bay.
And north towards the Fairfield Horseshoe from Watbarrow Point.
......a closer look from Calf Parrock Coppice........
.......so that's where all the Canada Geese go.
Loughrigg beyond Pull Wyke Bay.
Bowfell in shadow, and the Langdales.
Now that's really fresh milk.
A typical woodland sight.
Wray Castle from Calf Parrock Coppice.
.....and around the gardens.
The views from the terrace.....
St Margaret's Church. Originally a private church built by James Dawson for the spiritual benefit of his family, servants, friends and estate workers.
The Sundial over the main entrance......taken at 8am.... so it's about 5 mins slow!
The estate Boat House on Low Wray Bay.....now that's a proper boat house........ big enough for a family to live in.
...and a view across to the Lowwood Hotel.
Later the Lake gets very busy......
.......and some ignore the 10mph speed limit.
Blelham Tarn, with a backdrop of the Coniston Fells....from High Wray.
