Central Lakes

Doras Field

The following photographs of daffodils have been specially requested for Jemilah of Sri Lanka to remind her of the time that she lived here in the South lakes. The most famous host of daffodils is Dora's Field ....it was bought by William Wordsworth who lived at Rydal Mount from 1813 to 1850. He intended to use it as the site of a house for Dora, his daughter. However she died in 1847. He along with his wife, sister and gardener planted hundreds of daffodils as a memorial to her
