About Lakeland Eye

Amateur photographs posted at irregular intervals of the English Lake District - and other locations that I have visited. I have lived and worked here for over 25 years and am now retired, so when time permits....amongst other things....I pursue hobbies including walking, cycling, and photography. An interest in computers led to putting some of my efforts on the web.

My photographs reflect the season in which they are posted. The Central Lakes feature predominantly....this is the area in which I live.

For the technically minded, I have over the years collected quite a few cameras... currently I use a Canon S3iS, which is a good compromise between quality and portability. I use Photoshop Elements for image editing; a very basic text editor Notepad, to write the XHTML and CSS to produce these pages, and find Ipswitch WS FTP one of the best to upload files.

July 2008. Decided to buy a Digital SLR....why carry around a lightweight compact camera when you can get an outfit that weighs a ton. Went for a Canon 450D and two zoom lenses, an EF-S 17-85mm IS USM and an EF 70-300mm IS USM.....and a wheel barrow. It probably will not make a difference to the optimised web size pictures, but with larger file sizes, better optics and the choice of RAW files, it should enable higher quality crops and better printing.....I hope.

You are welcome to contact me.....you will find my e-mail address at the foot of every page.
